Born on February 10, 1995, in GotÅ, Nagasaki, Kawaguchi started her career as a model for the teen fashion magazine Nicola in 2007. She won the Grand Prix at the 11th Nicola audition and became a regular model for the magazine until 2011. She also appeared in various commercials, music videos, and variety shows during this period. She made her acting debut in 2009 with a supporting role in the Fuji TV drama Tokyo Dogs. In 2010, she had her first lead role in the P&G Pantene drama special Hatsukoi Chronicle. She was also selected as "Face of the Year" by Nikkei Trendy in 2010.


In 2011, she graduated from Nicola and stated that "from now on, I will focus on acting." She landed her breakthrough role as Haruhi Fujioka in the live-action adaptation of the manga and anime Ouran High School Host Club, which aired on TBS in 2011 and was followed by a movie in 2012. She received positive reviews for her portrayal of the cross-dressing heroine who joins a host club at an elite school. She also became the seventh support manager (image girl) for the 90th National High School Soccer Championship in 2011.


Since then, she has been active as both an actress and a model, appearing on the covers of magazines such as JJ and VOCE. She has also worked on fashion features and collaborated with various brands.
